Eddie Nketiah scored the first hat-trick of his Premier League career on Saturday as Arsenal thrashed Sheffield United 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Nketiah, who was starting in place of the injured Gabriel Jesus, opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a fine two-touch finish inside the penalty area after collecting a pass from Declan Rice.

He doubled his tally five minutes into the second half with a powerful strike from close range after Blades keeper Wes Foderingham had dropped the ball following a corner kick.

Nketiah's third goal of the game - his 19th in 99 EPL appearances for Arsenal - was his best as he lashed a stunning shot into the top corner from 25 yards.

Fabio Vieira came off the bench to score Arsenal's fourth goal by winning and converting a penalty kick.

Fellow substitute Takehiro Tomiyasu then got goal no.5 from a Vieira corner.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard and defender Gabriel were both unused subs as manager Mikel Arteta opted to rest two of his regular starters.

Saturday's win saw Arsenal move to within two points of Premier League leaders Tottenham.
