Manuel Akanji can officially celebrate scoring his first ever goal for Manchester City.

The Swiss defender headed the ball past Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois during City's 4-0 win in Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg.

However, the ball had taken a significant deflection off Eder Militao and was initially recorded as an own goal by the Real center-back.

But after studying replays, UEFA officials announced after the game that Akanji's initial effort had been on target and therefore the goal was his.

Akanji's first City goal came in his 45th appearance for the club.

He is the first Swiss player ever to score in a Champions League semi-final.
