Manchester United beat Newcastle at Wembley on Sunday to win the 2022/23 EFL Cup.

The Red Devils had fewer shots and less possession than Newcastle in the first half but went in 2-0 up at half-time.

Casemiro headed his team in front following a pinpoint Luke Shaw cross on 33 minutes.

An own goal doubled United's lead when Sven Botman deflected a Marcus Rashford shot past keeper Loris Karius, who was playing his first game since 2021.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe switched to a more attacking formation in the second half.

But United held on to win their first trophy under Erik ten Hag.
