Emiliano Martinez Error Helps Bruno Fernandes End EPL Goal Drought As Man United Beat Aston Villa
Bruno Fernandes scored his first Premier League goal in 85 days to give Manchester United a 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.
The Portuguese playmaker had gone 10 EPL matches without finding the net before he pounced on an error by Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez in the 39th minute.
Martinez failed to hold onto a fairly tame shot from Marcus Rashford. His save only succeeded in pushing the ball into the path of Fernandes, who got to the rebound after winning his race against Alex Moreno.
Fernandes and Martinez have history.
The keeper famously performed a celebratory dance in September 2021 after his mind games appeared to contribute to Fernandes missing a late penalty in a 1-0 Villa win at Old Trafford.
But it was Fernandes who was celebrating at full-time on Sunday.
United's win took them one step closer to securing a top-four finish and a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.
