England Beat Scotland Despite Harry Maguire Own Goal
England beat Scotland 3-1 in an international friendly in Glasgow on Tuesday despite Harry Maguire scoring an own goal.
The Three Lions led 2-0 thanks to strikes from Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham when Maguire was introduced as a substitute at half-time.
Scotland failed to register a shot on target at Hampden Park all game. But their hopes of mounting an unlikely comeback were boosted in the 67th minute when Maguire deflected an Andy Robertson cross past keeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Maguire looked utterly dejected as he covered his face with his jersey.
But England responded excellently to their setback and Bellingham set up captain Harry Kane to restore his side's two-goal advantage in the 81st minute.
Tuesday's result ended Scotland's run of five straight victories.
Meanwhile, it saw England become the first European nation to win 600 games in men's international soccer.
