Young Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri scored the first goal of his senior career to help Birmingham beat local rivals West Brom 2-0 on Friday night.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Birmingham, having joined from United in August until the end of the season.

He opened the scoring at St. Andrew's stadium with a long-range direct free-kick.

Mejbri initially raised his right hand as a signal that he was going to cross the ball.

But, after seeing the position taken up by former Tottenham goalkeeper David Button, Mejbri decided to shoot instead.

Button scrambled to his left and dived at full stretch but he was well beaten by Mejbri's low curling shot.

Friday's Midlands derby was Mejbri's 27th appearance for Birmingham.

He has played in three games for United since the start of the 2020/21 season and has been capped 20 times by Tunisia at senior international level.

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Krystian Bielik scored Birmingham's other goal on Friday.

Birmingham's win saw them climb to 16th place in the EFL Championship.
