Harry Kane scored his 52nd goal of 2023 as Bayern Munich ended the calendar year by winning 2-1 at Wolfsburg on Wednesday.

Jamal Musiala headed Bayern in front at the Volkswagen Arena before Kane doubled his side's lead with a superb strike from 25 yards in the 42nd minute.

Maximilian Arnold pulled a goal back for Wolfsburg in first-half added time but Bayern held on for a precious victory.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Xavi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen thrashed Bochum 4-0 at the BayArena.

Patrik Schick scored a hat-trick of goals in the opening 45 minutes before Victor Boniface wrapped up a resounding win.

That result saw Leverkusen end 2023 with 39 points from their first 15 Bundesliga games of the season.

Bayern sit second with 35 points from 14 matches.

The Bundesliga will now take a winter break before returning on January 12.

Kane's goal on Wednesday was his 25th for Bayern, coming in his 22nd game for the club.

He has now scored at least 25 club goals in all competitions in eight different seasons.

Of Kane's 52 goals in 2023, 18 goals were scored for former club Tottenham. He also netted nine times for England.
