Watch "Proud" Harry Maguire Celebrate With Manchester United Fans After Scoring Winning Goal Against Copenhagen
Harry Maguire scored his first goal in more than 20 months on Tuesday.
It arrived 72 minutes into Manchester United's UEFA Champions League Group A game against FC Copenhagen at Old Trafford.
Maguire headed United in front when he got on the end of a cross from Christian Eriksen.
That goal proved to be the winner but only after United keeper Andre Onana had saved a penalty kick given away by Scott McTominay deep into added time.
Tuesday's 1-0 victory kept alive United's hopes of progressing beyond the UCL group stage.
Former club captain Maguire has endured a difficult couple of years, during which time he has been heavily criticized in the media and even booed by fans of United and England.
However, Maguire's goal had United supporters cheering with delight on Tuesday.
After the defender celebrated by performing a knee slide near the corner flag, two Red Devils fans reached out their right hands towards him.
Maguire responded by enthusiastically giving them both five with one confident swipe.
The former Sheffield United center-back was then seen making a heart shape with his fingers and aiming it towards the crowd.
Maguire spoke to TNT Sports after the game and he was asked how it felt to hear United supporters chanting his name.
He replied: "It is amazing. When you are not on your game it gets picked up, but I am really proud and pleased how I have acted over this six to 12 months.
"I have been given an opportunity and I want to help the team and get the club back to where it should be."
