Captain Kylian Mbappe Leads From The Front With Two Goals And One Assist As France Thrash Holland
France 4-0 Holland
Kylian Mbappe scored two goals and assisted another in his first game after being confirmed as the new captain of France.
The 24-year-old was practically unplayable at the Stade de France where he led Les Bleus to a 4-0 win over Holland in their opening Euro 2024 qualifier.
Just 115 seconds were on the clock when Mbappe teed up vice-captain Antoine Griezmann to fire France 1-0 up.
Griezmann created the second goal five minutes later by delivering a wicked free-kick that was eventually turned in by Dayot Upamecano.
Then began the Mbappe show for real.
His first goal of the game arrived in the 21st minute when he timed his run to perfection and raced onto an Aurelien Tchouameni through-pass before drilling a low shot inside the near post.
Mbappe's second goal was even better.
It came after he collected a loose ball midway inside the Holland half in the 88th minute. He dribbled past one defender, sat another on their backside and then lashed a powerful shot past the keeper from 17 yards.
Mbappe's two goals saw him move up to fifth on the list of France's all-time leading scorers.
He has now scored 38 goals for his country and is behind only Olivier Giroud (53), Thierry Henry (51), Griezmann (43) and Michel Platini (41).
