Thousands of home supporters had already left Old Trafford in disgust by the time Scott McTominay entered the action as a substitute in the 87th minute on Saturday.

Manchester United were 1-0 down to Brentford - thanks to Mathias Jensen's fourth goal of the season - and Erik ten Hag's men were heading towards a third defeat in a row.

McTominay's introduction did little to immediately raise the spirits of the Red Devils fans at Old Trafford. Indeed, there were even some audible grumbles when he replaced Sofyan Amrabat.

But Old Trafford would later be rocking after McTominay scored two goals in added time to earn a dramatic 2-1 win for United.

He equalized with a stylish two-touch finish inside a packed 18-yard box shortly after Thomas Strakosha had parried an effort from Diogo Dalot.

That goal came in the 93rd minute. United's winner arrived in the 97th.

Bruno Fernandez launched a free-kick from the halfway line into the penalty area. The ball was flicked on by Harry Maguire to McTominay, who stooped to head home from seven yards.

United's win moved them up to ninth place, with 12 points from eight EPL games this season.
