Highlights: Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle - Bad Day For Hugo Lloris
Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris had a day to forget as Tottenham lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle on Sunday.
Errors by the Spurs keeper helped Newcastle take a shock 2-0 lead in the first half before a sole Harry Kane consolation goal was all the hosts could muster in the second.
The result saw Newcastle end the weekend fourth in the Premier League table, just two points behind Tottenham.
Spurs had been the better side in the opening half-hour and were twice denied by good saves from Newcastle keeper Nick Pope.
But Pope's opposite number was not on top form.
Though Newcastle's goals were aided by Lloris mistakes, they were both finished superbly.
The first arrived on 31 minutes when a hopeful long pass by Fabian Schar tempted Lloris to rush out of his penalty area.
Lloris got to the ball before Callum Wilson but, instead of clearing it, he tried to control it. Lloris then ran into Wilson and fell to the floor before Newcastle's no.9 picked up the loose ball and chipped it into the net from 30 yards.
Spurs appealed for a free-kick, claiming that Wilson had fouled Lloris, but a VAR review found no reason to disallow the goal.
Newcastle's second goal arrived 10 minutes later. An attempted pass from Lloris to Ryan Sessegnon was intercepted by Sean Longstaff, who headed the ball to Miguel Almiron.
After collecting the ball, Almiron ran past Sessegnon and Clement Lenglet before squeezing a low shot under Lloris.
Tottenham were booed off the field at half-time.
They improved in the second period but nowhere near enough.
Kane stooped at the far post to head home from a corner on 54 minutes but an equalizer never looked likely.
