Jayden Danns Scores His First Two Liverpool Goals in FA Cup Win Over Southampton
Jayden Danns scored two goals as a second-half substitute to help Liverpool beat Southampton 3-0 in the FA Cup and set up a quarter-final clash with Manchester United.
Eighteen-year-old Danns was one of six Liverpool teenagers to get game time at Anfield on Wednesday.
The others were Lewis Koumas, 18, Bobby Clark, 19, James McConnell, 19, Trey Nyoni, 16, and Kaide Gordon, 19.
Koumas fired Jurgen Klopp's young Reds in front just before half-time when he marked his senior debut by scoring from 19 yards.
Danns - who is the son of former Blackburn and Birmingham midfielder Neil Danns - made it 2-0 with a cheeky chip over Saints keeper Joe Lumley in the 73rd minute.
He then completed the scoring 15 minutes later when he converted a rebound after Lumley had saved an initial effort from Conor Bradley.
This was only the third senior appearance of Danns' career.
He was handed his debut as an 89th-minute sub in last week's 4-1 win over Luton in the Premier League, before making another cameo in Sunday's 1-0 victory against Chelsea in the EFL Cup final.
Wednesday's game kicked off shortly after the draw for the FA Cup quarter-finals had taken place.
Therefore, Liverpool knew that a win over Southampton would result in a trip to either Nottingham Forest or Man United in the last eight.
United won 1-0 at Forest thanks to an 89th-minute goal from Casemiro.
The quarter-finals will take place across the weekend of March 16 and 17.
