Wolves 3-0 Liverpool

Liverpool made an awful start at Wolves in Saturday's Premier League game.

The Reds were 2-0 down after just 12 minutes following a Joel Matip own goal and a debut strike from Craig Dawson.

Liverpool fell behind in almost comedic fashion in the fifth minute.

Hwang Hee-chan's hopeful cross from the corner of the six-yard box took a significant deflection off Matip.

It first appeared as though the ball was heading wide, which is likely why Trent Alexander-Arnold made no attempt to intercept it.

But Hwang's deflected cross eventually hit the inside of Liverpool's far post and then crossed the goal-line moments before keeper Alisson was able to clear.

This was the fifth Premier League goal that Liverpool had conceded in the opening five minutes of a game this season.

More unimpressive Liverpool defending led to Wolves scoring their second goal of the match.

Alisson attempted to catch a cross, but was beaten to the ball by teammate Joe Gomez.

Gomez's clearance only went as far as Max Kilman. His effort hit the chest of Cody Gakpo and the ball fell kindly for Dawson to rifle home a shot from eight yards.

Ruben Neves added a third goal for Wolves in the second half as Liverpool fell to their seventh EPL defeat of the season.

The Reds only lost twice in the league during their 2021/22 campaign.
