Man City Defender John Stones Awarded Goal Against Arsenal After Long VAR Review
Manchester City defender John Stones was awarded his third goal of the season following a lengthy VAR review during Wednesday's 4-1 win over Premier League title rivals Arsenal.
City were already 1-0 up when Stones met a Kevin De Bruyne free-kick with a fine header in first-half stoppage time.
Stones raised his arms to celebrate but then quickly put his hands to his head once he realized that the assistant referee had raised his flag to signal for offside.
That was not the end of the story though.
After replays were studied and lines drawn, it was decided that the tip of Ben White's right foot had been closer to the goal than Stones when De Bruyne had kicked the ball. So the goal was given.
De Bruyne ended the night as City's man of the match.
The Belgian scored two goals, one either side of his assist for Stones, to help City take control of the Premier League title race.
Rob Holding and Erling Haaland also found the net in the second half.
