Jude Bellingham Shown Red Card for Furious Reaction to Disallowed Goal Against Valencia
Jude Bellingham was shown the first red card of his Real Madrid career after a chaotic end to Saturday's 2-2 draw at Valencia.
Bellingham thought that he had scored a 99th-minute winner for Madrid when he met a Brahim Diaz cross with an excellent header to send the ball into the Valencia net.
But referee Jesus Gil Manzano had blown the final whistle two seconds before the ball crossed the goal-line.
Madrid's players were furious and Bellingham was sent off, seemingly for something he said.
Former New England Revolution manager Steve Nicol said of the incident in his post-game analysis for ESPN: "Absolutely horrible refereeing.
"It makes no sense that you second-guess yourself and then you see that the ball is being crossed, and then you decide to blow the whistle.
"It's just horrible refereeing."
Two goals from Vinicius Junior had earlier seen Madrid fight back from 2-0 down to level the game following first-half strikes from Hugo Duro and Roman Yaremchuk.
This was Bellingham's first appearance for Madrid since February 10.
He had missed Madrid's last three games after spraining his left ankle during a 4-0 win over title rivals Girona.
Saturday's result saw Madrid move seven points clear at the top of La Liga but that lead could be cut to four points if Girona win away at Mallorca on Sunday.
Bellingham's red card is likely to result in him being suspended for Madrid's next three domestic games - against Osasuna, Celta Vigo and Athletic Bilbao.
