Jude Bellingham scored on his La Liga debut as Real Madrid began the new season by winning 2-0 away at Athletic Bilbao.

Bellingham found the net in the 36th minute when he got on the end of a David Alaba corner kick.

The England midfielder found space with some good off-the-ball movement before casually stroking a volleyed effort into the ground.

His unusual shot bounced high off the pitch before looping over Bilbao keeper Unai Simon.

Bellingham's goal arrived in the 36th minute.

Brazilian forward Rodrygo had earlier fired Real 1-0 up following a Dani Carvajal assist.

Madrid were good value for their victory in Bilbao, where they had 56% of possession and recorded eight attempts on target, compared with just one from the home side.

Bellingham - who joined Madrid from Borussia Dortmund for an initial transfer fee of €103 million in June - played the full 90 minutes on Saturday.

He touched the ball 75 times - making four tackles, two interceptions and 48 passes.
