Karim Benzema Goal Against Barcelona Reassigned To Vinicius Junior
Real Madrid went 1-0 up at Barcelona on Wednesday night with a brilliant counter-attacking goal... but who scored it?
After losing 1-0 at the Bernabeu last month in the first leg of this Copa del Rey semi-final, Real leveled the tie at 1-1 on aggregate by scoring just before half time at the Camp Nou.
It came seconds after Barca had almost increased their aggregate lead at the other end.
A smart save from Thibaut Courtois denied Robert Lewandowski and Real quickly broke forward.
Rodrygo raced away from Marcos Alonso before Vinicius Junior collected the ball inside the center circle.
Vinicius then carried the ball for 30 yards before playing it right to Karim Benzema, who returned it back to him first time.
Jules Kounde almost saved a goal by blocking a shot from Vinicius, but Benzema arrived on the scene to fire the ball into the back of the net from ultra close range.
The stadium announcer gave the goal to Benzema but replays later suggested that the ball had already crossed the line before the French striker touched it.
Therefore, Vinicius was eventually credited with his 20th club goal of the season.
The night still belonged to Benzema though because the Frenchman went on to score a hat-trick as Real won 4-0 on the night and 4-1 on aggregate to join Osasuna in the Copa del Rey final.
