Chicago lived up to its "Windy City" nickname on Saturday as Kellyn Acosta scored one of the wildest goals in Major League Soccer history.

Acosta netted a late winner from inside his team's own half as Chicago Fire beat Montreal 4-3 at Soldier Field.

The USMNT midfielder played a hopeful forward pass high into the Chicago sky in the 99th minute.

At first the ball appeared to be heading towards the right side of the field but it then swirled violently left.

Montreal keeper Jonathan Sirois came 10 yards off his line with the intention of catching the ball.

However, Sirois was caught out by the speed and angle at which Acosta's strike returned to Earth and the ball burst through his hands before bouncing into the net.

Montreal had earlier led 2-0 and 3-1 but a flurry of late goals resulted in Chicago's first win of the 2024 season.

An 84th-minute Brian Gutierrez penalty kick reduced the deficit to 3-2 before Hugo Cuypers equalized in the fifth minute of added time.

Acosta then completed the turnaround with the final shot - even if it was an accidental shot - of the game.
