Kylian Mbappe had one of the worst games of his career on Wednesday night.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker failed to convert a penalty kick in the eighth minute of his team's Ligue 1 match at Montpellier.

Mbappe's spot-kick was saved by Benjamin Lecomte but a VAR review concluded that there had been encroachment so a retake was ordered.

Lecomte then saved Mbappe's second penalty attempt too by tipping the ball onto the post.

The ball rebounded back into Mbappe's path, only for him to send an awkward volley over the crossbar from six yards.

Mbappe's night got even worse when he sustained a suspected hamstring injury and was forced off after just 21 minutes.

PSG were already missing Neymar due to "muscle fatigue".

But Fabian Ruiz and Lionel Messi fired the champions into a 2-0 lead with goals on 55 and 72 minutes respectively.

Arnaud Nordin pulled one back for Montpellier in the 89th minute but PSG wrapped up their victory in added time when 16-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery scored his first ever senior goal.
