Lebanon defender Khalil Khamis was lucky to avoid a red card during his team's 0-0 draw with China at the AFC Asian Cup on Wednesday.

Khamis kicked China midfielder Dai Wai Tsun in the face after clearing the ball with a dangerously high left boot.

Dai fell to the ground and appeared to be in a lot of pain.

He was left with multiple cuts on his face but managed to complete the full 90 minutes.

South Korean referee Ko Hyung-jin blew his whistle moments after the ugly incident but not to signal a foul against Khamis.

Instead the ref stopped the game to award an indirect free-kick to Lebanon for offside.

The result means that China have now taken two points from two games in Group A, having also drawn 0-0 against Tajikistan last week.

China will face Qatar next Monday and could be eliminated if they fail to win.

Hosts Qatar - who beat Tajikistan 1-0 on Wednesday - have already qualified for the round of 16 after taking six points from their first two matches.

Lebanon lost 3-0 to Qatar in the tournament's opening game and must now beat Tajikistan on Monday to stay in the competition.
