Lionel Messi scored his 16th Ligue 1 goal of the season to help seal Paris Saint-Germain's coronation as French champions on Saturday.

PSG needed just a point away atΒ Strasbourg in order to be confirmed asΒ Ligue 1 winners for the 11th time in the club's history.

Strasbourg provided stubborn resistance in the first half before PSG's two main men combined to break the deadlock in the 59th minute.

Kylian Mbappe collected a long-range through ball, toyed with a defender on the left flank and then rolled a pass into the feet of Messi, who picked out the top corner with his second touch.

Substitute Kevin Gameiro equalized forΒ Strasbourg 20 minutes later but that was not enough to deny PSG as a 1-1 draw left them four points clear of Lens with just one round of fixtures remaining.

As well as scoring 16 Ligue 1 goals this season, Messi has provided 16 assists.

Messi will leave PSG when his contract expires at the end of June.

Next Saturday's clash with Clermont at the Parc des Princes will be the 35-year-old's final appearance for PSG.

Messi will lift the Ligue 1 trophy for the second time after that game.
