Luis Diaz Scores Brilliant Goal On First Liverpool Start Since October As Tottenham Collapse Early On Second Successive Sunday
Luis Diaz made a memorable return to the Liverpool starting XI on Sunday by scoring a brilliant goal against Tottenham after just five minutes.
The Colombian had not started a game for the Reds since October when he suffered a serious knee injury in a 3-2 loss to Arsenal.
But he looked incredibly sharp as he nailed a right-footed volley with both feet off the ground to convert a Cody Gakpo cross into a goal.
Diaz has now scored 11 goals for Liverpool since signing from Porto in January last year.
His strike on Sunday was Liverpool's second goal of the game after Curtis Jones had scored the opener inside three minutes.
Mo Salah then converted a penalty kick to make it 3-0 after just 15 minutes.
This was the second Sunday in a row in which Spurs had suffered a spectacular early collapse.
Newcastle had scored five goals against Spurs in the opening 21 minutes of last weekend's 6-1 thrashing at St James' Park.
But Liverpool did not thrash Spurs.
The away side fought back strongly at Anfield as goals from Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Richarlison saw them level the game at 3-3.
Liverpool still won though. Diogo Jota scored a 94th-minute winner just 99 seconds after Richarlison's equalizer.
