Manchester City Blow Two-Goal Lead To Draw With Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Manchester City on Saturday.
City appeared to be cruising to three Premier League points after Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis found the net at the Etihad Stadium.
But a Jean-Philippe Mateta goal gave Palace hope in the 76th minute before Michael Olise equalized from a penalty kick in added time.
City have now dropped points in five of their last six EPL matches.
Palace only recorded two shots on target and scored from both, while keeper Dean Henderson made seven saves at the other end.
Grealish opened the scoring in the 24th minute following a fine assist by Phil Foden.
The goal was checked for a possible offside but replays showed that Grealish had been kept onside by the left buttock of Nathaniel Clyne.
The game's next VAR review did not go in City's favor though as Julian Alvarez had a goal disallowed for offside seven minutes into the second half.
But City made it 2-0 for real just 100 seconds later when Lewis fired in his first Premier League goal following a quick game of penalty-box pinball.
Palace got back into the contest after the pace of Jeffrey Schlupp exposed City's high defensive line.
Schlupp raced past Ruben Dias before squaring the ball to Mateta, who tapped home from three yards.
From being in a position of extreme strength, City now looked vulnerable.
Foden was one of eight City players in the 18-yard box when he attempted to hoof the ball clear in the 93rd minute.
But the England midfielder missed the ball and instead fouled Mateta before Olise cooly converted the resultant spot-kick.
