Erling Haaland Reaches EPL Landmark As City Crush United In Manchester Derby
Erling Haaland scored twice and assisted Phil Foden for another goal as Manchester City cruised to a 3-0 derby win away at Manchester United on Sunday.
Haaland's Old Trafford brace saw him reach a Premier League landmark. The Norwegian striker has now scored 20 away goals in his EPL career.
Those 20 goals have come in just 23 away games for City, meaning that Haaland has reached the milestone faster than any player in EPL history.
Prior to Haaland, Kevin Phillips had held the Premier League record for getting to 20 away goals in the fewest appearances, having done so in just 28 games for Sunderland.
Haaland's first goal of the game on Sunday came from a penalty kick awarded following a VAR review that found Rasmus Hojlund guilty of fouling Rodri.
City had never previously been awarded a penalty kick in 26 Premier League visits to Old Trafford.
Haaland then doubled City's lead four minutes into the second half when he headed home at the far post following a cross from Bernardo Silva.
After scoring City's first two goals of the game, Haaland unselfishly set up Foden for the third by opting to play a square pass when he easily could have taken a shot at hat-trick glory.
City's victory saw Pep Guardiola's side move to within two points of EPL leaders Tottenham.
United now sit eighth after 10 rounds of fixtures - nine points below City.
