Marcus Rashford Red Card Sparks Manchester United Collapse Against Copenhagen In Seven-Goal Thriller
Manchester United dropped to the bottom of UEFA Champions League Group A on Wednesday night after losing 4-3 at FC Copenhagen.
United had seemingly been in control of the game before Marcus Rashford received the second red card of his career.
Rashford was sent off in the 42nd minute following a VAR review that found him guilty of serious foul play when he was judged to have stamped on the ankle of Elias Jelert.
United had been 2-0 up at this point thanks to two goals scored by Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund against his former club.
However, that lead was wiped out before half-time as the Red Devils collapsed following Rashford's red card.
Copenhagen's comeback began with a slick team goal finished off by Mohamed Elyounoussi 90 seconds after United had been reduced to 10 men.
Elyounoussi then equalized in first-half added time by converting a penalty kick awarded for a Harry Maguire handball.
United's 10 men rallied in the second half and retook the lead from a penalty of their own, converted by Bruno Fernandes after the ball had hit the outstretched arm of Lukas Lerager.
But Copenhagen made it 3-3 in the 83rd minute when Lerager atoned for his earlier error by scoring his second Champions League goal of the season.
Teenage substitute Roony Bardghji, 17, then netted the winning goal four minutes later when he became the youngest player ever to score against United in the UCL.
