Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt prevented what looked like being a certain goal for Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

Thirty-eight minutes into the Champions League round of 16 second leg in Germany, Bayern keeper Yann Sommer foolishly attempted to beat the PSG press by trying to dribble past Achraf Hakimi.

Sommer was tackled by Hakimi and the loose ball fell to Vitinha who looked poised to finish into an empty net.

But Vitinha lost his balance and failed to hit his shot as firmly as he would have liked.

This gave De Ligt just enough time to sprint back and clear Vitinha's low effort from right underneath the crossbar.

The score was 0-0 when this happened, with Bayern leading 1-0 on aggregate having won the first leg in Paris on February 14.

Bayern went on to win Wednesday's game 2-0 courtesy of goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry.
