Micah Hamilton, Oscar Bobb And Kalvin Phillips Score First Man City Goals In Champions League Win Over Red Star Belgrade
Manchester City made it six wins out of six UEFA Champions League group games by beating Red Star Belgrade in Serbia on Tuesday.
With top spot in Group G already assured, City manager Pep Guardiola shuffled his squad and handed starts to 20-year-olds Micah Hamilton and Oscar Bobb.
Both of those youngsters then scored their first goals for the club in an impressive 3-2 victory.
Hamilton also won a penalty kick from which Kalvin Phillips netted the first goal of his City career.
Midfielder Hamilton - wearing the no.92 on his back - found the net 19 minutes into his senior debut when he smashed a powerful shot inside the Red Star keeper's near post after dribbling around two defenders.
Hamilton's first City goal came just 30 days after his 20th birthday, making him the fifth-youngest English player to score on his UCL debut.
City went 2-0 up in the 62nd minute thanks to a fine solo strike by Bobb.
The Norway winger collected the ball 40 yards from goal before dribbling into the penalty area with purpose and placing a low left-footed shot into the bottom corner.
Guardiola handed another youngster his debut on 76 minutes when 18-year-old midfielder Mahamadou Susoho made his entrance.
Seconds later, Red Star pulled a goal back by drilling a shot past Stefan Ortega following a neat assist by Osman Bukari.
A penalty won by Hamilton and converted by Phillips restored City's two-goal buffer in the 85th minute.
Aleksandar Katai then netted for Red Star in added time but City held on for a victory that saw the club end a Champions League group campaign with a perfect 18 points for the first time ever.
