Liverpool's Mo Salah Misses Sixth Penalty Of His EPL Career As He Fails To Beat Newcastle Keeper Martin Dubravka
Mo Salah failed from the penalty spot in the first half of Liverpool's Premier League game against Newcastle United at Anfield on New Year's Day.
Salah - playing in his final game for the Reds before jetting off to the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt - stepped up in the 22nd minute after Luis Diaz had been fouled by Sven Botman.
The 31-year-old had scored 12 goals in his first 19 EPL games of the season but he saw his spot-kick saved by Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka.
Salah opted for power as he blasted the ball towards the center of the goal, only to see Dubravka parry his shot, before Trent Alexander-Arnold fired the rebound over the bar.
Salah's penalty miss did not cost Liverpool, who went on to beat Newcastle 4-2.
The Egypt captain scored two of his side's four goals, including a successful penalty kick in the 86th minute.
Mo Salah's Premier League Penalty Record
Salah has missed two penalties in the Premier League this season.
He had a spot-kick saved by Neto during Liverpool's 3-1 win over Bournemouth in August - although he scored from the rebound in that game.
Including his two against Newcastle on Monday, Salah has now taken 30 penalties in the Premier League and scored directly from 24 of them, missing six.
His recent record is less impressive though. He has missed four of his last 10 penalties in the EPL.
