Kylian Mbappe Ends Dry Spell With Two Brilliant Goals As France Beat Netherlands To Qualify For Euro 2024
Kylian Mbappe scored his first goals in five games on Friday night as France beat the Netherlands 2-1 in a Euro 2024 Group B qualifier.
The World Cup Golden Boot winner had failed to score in each of his previous four matches for Paris Saint-Germain but he found the net just 390 seconds into Friday's game in Amsterdam.
Mbappe, 24, displayed impressive athleticism to execute an acrobatic volley following a cross from Jonathan Clauss.
This was Mbappe's 41st goal for France, coming in his 72nd senior international appearance.
It put him joint fourth alongside Michel Platini on the all-time list of leading scorers for the France men's national team.
Only Olivier Giroud (54), Thierry Henry (51) and Antoine Griezmann (44) are above Mbappe on that list.
Mbappe then moved clear of Platini eight minutes into the second half of Friday's game when he scored a stunning goal from outside of the penalty area.
He played a one-two with Adrien Rabiot before whipping a wicked effort into the top corner of Bart Verbruggen's goal from 21 yards.
Quilindschy Hartman scored a consolation goal for the home side in the 84th minute.
But France held on for a victory that sealed their place at next summer's European Championship in Germany.
France have now won all six of their qualifying games so far, scoring 13 goals and conceding just one.
