Newcastle 2-0 Manchester United

Newcastle United moved above Manchester United in the Premier League table after beating their top-four rivals on Sunday.

Both of Newcastle's goals at St James' Park came in the final 25 minutes but they were just reward for a dominant display by Eddie Howe's team.

Despite having a smaller share of possession than the Red Devils, Newcastle attempted 16 more shots and finished 3.14 ahead in terms of xG (expected goals).

The visitors relied on David de Gea to keep them level during the first half. The Spanish goalkeeper pulled off a superb double save to deny Alexander Isak and Joe Willock.

But Willock did manage to beat De Gea 20 minutes into the second half from a close-range header set up by Allan Saint-Maximin.

Newcastle's second goal arrived in the 88th minute when Callum Wilson nodded home following a cross from Kieran Trippier.

Both teams now have 50 points from 27 matches but Newcastle have a much superior goal difference.
