Kevin De Bruyne Scores And Assists As Man City Beat Newcastle In Five-Goal EPL Classic
Kevin De Bruyne produced a match-winning cameo off the bench as Manchester City came from behind to beat Newcastle United 3-2 in the Premier League on Saturday.
De Bruyne scored his first goal of the season to equalize for City before producing an added-time assist for Oscar Bobb.
Goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon had earlier fired Newcastle into a 2-1 lead following a fine opener by Bernardo Silva.
De Bruyne had missed City's previous 18 EPL matches after suffering a hamstring injury against Burnley on the opening day of the season.
Newcastle had the ball in the net in the first 90 seconds of the game but Sean Longstaff's early goal was disallowed for offside.
In trying to stop Longstaff, Kyle Walker accidentally slid into City goalkeeper Ederson, who suffered an injury and had to be subbed off.
Walker then assisted City's opening goal in the 26th minute when his firm cross was beautifully diverted home by a back-heeled flick from Silva.
But Newcastle led 2-1 by half-time thanks to two fine finishes past stand-in keeper Stefan Ortega.
With Newcastle still ahead in the 69th minute, Pep Guardiola sent on De Bruyne in place of Silva.
Five minutes later, the Belgian scored his first EPL goal since April 2023 by placing a brilliant low shot into the corner of the net from 22 yards.
But he was not done yet. De Bruyne set up fellow sub Bobb with a delicious 30-yard pass in the 91st minute.
Bobb rode a sliding challenge from Kieran Trippier before beating Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka with some excellent footwork on the edge of the six-yard box to score the first goal of his EPL career.
