Newcastle Keeper Nick Pope Ruins Ivan Toney's Perfect Penalty Record For Brentford
Ivan Toney no longer has an unblemished penalty record for Brentford.
Prior to Saturday's Premier League game against Newcastle, Toney had taken 22 spot-kicks as a Brentford player and scored 22 penalty goals.
But Newcastle keeper Nick Pope denied Toney with a penalty save 29 minutes into the match.
In truth, it looked like a pretty straightforward stop for Pope as he dived down to his left and held onto a soft effort from Toney.
But Toney was presented with a second chance just before half-time after Brentford were awarded another penalty.
This time he scored. Toney shot to Pope's left again, but with much more conviction. Pope went the right way but was unable to get to the ball.
Newcastle went on to win the game 2-1.
A David Raya own goal and a right-footed strike from Alexander Isak helped the Magpies register their seventh away league win of the season.
