Liverpool completed a Premier League double over Newcastle United by winning 2-0 at St. James' Park on Saturday.

Newcastle have lost only twice in 23 EPL games this season, with both defeats coming against Jurgen Klopp's team.

Liverpool's two goals on Saturday came inside the opening 17 minutes.

Darwin Nunez fired the Reds in front before Cody Gakpo doubled the lead with his second goal in six days.

Things got even worse for Newcastle midway through the first half.

Goalkeeper Nick Pope was shown a straight red card for denying Mo Salah a scoring chance by handling the ball outside of his penalty area.

Pope will now be suspended for next weekend's EFL Cup final against Manchester United.

Newcastle's second choice keeper, Martin Dubravka, will also be ineligible to play in the final, having played for in the EFL Cup for Man United during a loan spell earlier this season.

Therefore, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe must choose between Loris Karius or Mark Gillespie to start in goal at Wembley.

Karius has not played a senior game since February 2021, while Gillespie's last first-team appearance came in 2020.
