Mallorca 1-0 Real Madrid

Real Madrid fell to a damaging defeat at Mallorca on Sunday afternoon after an own goal scored by stand-in captain Nacho.

The match was just 13 minutes old when Nacho, who was wearing the captain's armband because regular skipper Karim Benzema had suffered an injury in Thursday's 2-0 win over Valencia, accidentally headed past Real keeper Andriy Lunin.

The defender's own goal arrived after Dani Rodriguez had delivered a curling cross into the penalty area.

The target had been Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi.

Indeed, Muriqi was originally credited with the goal after he and Nacho had jumped simultaneously in an attempt to head the ball.

But slow-motion replays later showed that the ball had come off Nacho's head, not Muriqi's, before looping over Lunin.

Real had the chance to draw level on the hour-mark after Vinicius Junior had been fouled inside the penalty area by Mallorca keeper Predrag Rajkovic.

But Rajkovic redeemed himself by saving the resultant penalty from Marco Asensio.

Real had started the day five points below title rivals Barcelona in La Liga.

They would end the weekend eight points behind, after Barca beat Sevilla 3-0 on Sunday night.
