Roberto Firmino Scores Spectacular Equalizer Against Aston Villa On Final Anfield Appearance For Liverpool
Roberto Firmino marked his final Anfield appearance for Liverpool by scoring an 89th-minute goal in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.
The popular Brazilian, who will leave Liverpool when his contract expires next month, was given a standing ovation when he entered the action as a 72nd-minute substitute.
Firmino had Liverpool supporters on their feet again after finding the net with a flying volley following a cross from Mo Salah.
That spectacular strike leveled the game after Jacob Ramsey had earlier fired Villa in front.
Firmino has now scored 110 goals in 361 games for the Reds.
Ramsey buried a low volley following a cross from Douglas Luiz 27 minutes into Saturday's game.
Villa had earlier missed a golden chance to take the lead when Ollie Watkins failed to hit the target from a penalty kick.
Liverpool thought that they had leveled 10 minutes into the second half but Cody Gakpo saw his goal disallowed for offside following a VAR review.
James Milner also came off the bench to play his final home game as a Liverpool player.
Saturday's result ended Liverpool's run of seven consecutive wins.
The Reds now look highly likely to miss out on a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.
