Rodri Rocket Secures Man City Win At Sheffield United After Erling Haaland Penalty Miss
Manchester City went top of the Premier League on Sunday after a late Rodri strike secured a 2-1 win at Sheffield United.
Rodri rocketed a stunning left-footed shot into the top corner in the 88th minute, moments after Jayden Bogle had shocked City by leveling the game.
Erling Haaland had earlier headed City into a deserved lead but only after he had missed a penalty kick.
City had 80% of possession at Bramall Lane and recorded 30 shots - forcing Sheffield United keeper Wes Foderingham into seven saves.
Eight of City's shots came from Haaland, who was presented with a golden chance to open the scoring in the 37th minute after John Egan was penalized for handball.
Foderingham dived the wrong way but Haaland's spot-kick hit the post, rather than the back of the keeper's net.
But Haaland did beat Foderingham 18 minutes into the second half with a powerful header following a cross from Jack Grealish.
City spurned multiple chances to go 2-0 in front before Bogle tied the game with his third EPL goal on 85 minutes.
The Blades were now within touching distance of earning an unlikely point but their parity lasted just 212 seconds.
City flooded forward in search of a winner and had seven players inside their opponents' 18-yard box when the ball fell invitingly for Rodri.
Phil Foden miscontrolled a pass from Kyle Walker but inadvertently assisted Rodri, who blasted his shot past Foderingham before the keeper had time to move.
City have now won their first three EPL games of a season for the first time since 2016.
