Scott McTominay scored his first Premier League goal of the season to help Manchester United beat Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Anthony Martial also found the net as United won 2-0 to tighten their grip on a place in the top four.

McTominay fired United in front from a narrow angle in the 36th minute after being set up by Jadon Sancho.

The 26-year-old has now scored three goals in all competitions for United this season, having also netted in the EFL Cup and Europa League.

McTominay also scored four times for Scotland last month, bagging braces in wins over Cyprus and Spain.

United could easily have been out of sight by half-time after recording 21 shots in the first period.

But Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford kept his team in the game by pulling off five saves during the opening 45 minutes.

Pickford made another four saves in the second half but he was beaten again in the 71st minute.

Marcus Rashford capitalized on an error from Seamus Coleman to set up Martial for his seventh goal of the season.

Rashford's afternoon then ended slightly prematurely as he limped off with what appeared to be a strained groin.
