Ajax midfielder Steven Berghuis produced a shocking miss in a 2-2 draw with PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie on Sunday.

It came in the 78th minute when Ajax were leading 2-1.

The ball was rolled across the penalty area into the path of Berghuis, who looked certain to tap it into the empty net from five yards.

However, instead of shooting with his first touch, Berghuis attempted to control the ball, only to see it slide under his left boot.

Berghuis put his hands on his head in disbelief before running after the ball.

Luckily for Berghuis, the offside flag then went up.

Brian Brobbey had earlier scored twice to fire Ajax into a 2-0 lead. But two strikes by Lennart Thy earned PEC a point in Amsterdam.

Ajax have been champions of the Netherlands four times in the past five seasons.

However, it is looking highly unlikely that Ajax will win the title this term.

Ajax have won just seven of their first 16 league games and are currently 23 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven.
