Steven Gerrard briefly spoke in Arabic when he was announced as the new manager of Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq earlier this month.

It was a short message. He said: "Hello, I'm Steven Gerrard. I am an Al-Ettifaqi."

But the Liverpool legend has been speaking in his native English during training sessions.

Footage from one session went viral on Thursday and appeared to show Gerrard's players struggling to understand his instructions.

In a short video, Gerrard is seen putting a ball on the ground before asking: "Who wants it? Who wants it?"

Gerrard, stood with both his arms outstretched, looks a little frustrated as he gets no reply.

He then says: "Do you want it? Tell me then. Tell me then."

Moments later, he picks up the ball and shouts: "Orange ball, orange ball. No communication!"

The vast majority of Ettifaq's current players are Saudi nationals but it has been reported that the club are keen to sign England midfielder Jordan Henderson from Liverpool this summer.

Ettifaq are scheduled to play their first pre-season friendly on Saturday against Croatian side Varazdin.
