Mo Salah scored his 42nd European goal for Liverpool when he punished a horror error by Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Liverpool were already 1-0 up after an early backheeled strike from Darwin Nunez when Salah closed down Courtois in the 14th minute.

As Courtois was preparing to clear the ball it bounced awkwardly off his knee, allowing Salah to pounce with a first-time finish.

The goal saw Salah become Liverpool's all-time leading scorer in European competitions, moving him clear of previous record-holder Steven Gerrard.

Despite Liverpool's brilliant start, Real went on to win the game 5-2.

Real's comeback was aided by another goalkeeping blunder.

After getting his team back in the game with a fine individual goal, Vinicius Junior was gifted an equalizer by Alisson Becker.

Liverpool keeper Alisson made a mess of an attempted clearance when he booted the ball straight at his fellow Brazilian.

Eder Militao, another Brazilian, later headed Real in front early in the second half before Karim Benzema netted twice.
