Brazil captain Neymar looks set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines after appearing to suffer a serious knee injury on Tuesday night.

The Al-Hilal forward was in tears as he left Brazil's World Cup qualifier against Uruguay on a stretcher just before half-time.

Moments earlier, a challenge from Uruguay midfielder Nicolas de la Cruz had caused Neymar to lose balance and this resulted in his left leg twisting awkwardly.

Neymar left the field just seven minutes after Darwin Nunez had fired Uruguay 1-0 up in Montevideo with a brilliant diving header.

Liverpool forward Nunez later set up De la Cruz for Uruguay's second goal in the 77th minute.

Tuesday's 2-0 victory was Uruguay's first win over Brazil since 2001.
