Australia Beat France In Penalty Shootout To Reach Women's World Cup Semi-Finals
Australia reached the semi-finals of the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time thanks to a dramatic victory over France in Brisbane.
Saturday's game went all the way to a penalty shootout after ending 0-0 following 120 minutes of play.
France had been marginally the better side before penalties, recording 21 shots to Australia's 15.
But Australia were superior when it came to spot-kicks.
France goalkeeper Solene Durand - who had been substituted on right at the end of extra time - saved two penalties.
But the hosts eventually prevailed 7-6 following three saves by Australia stopper Mackenzie Arnold.
Cortnee Vine scored the winning penalty for Australia from the 20th kick of the shootout.
Australia will now face England in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
