It took Liverpool less than four minutes to take the lead in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg against Real Madrid.

Darwin Nunez found the net when he met a Mo Salah cross with a cheeky backheeled finish after ghosting into space between Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal.

This was Nunez's 12th goal for Liverpool.

The Uruguayan had also scored in Champions League wins over Rangers, Ajax and Napoli during the group stage.

Liverpool went 2-0 up in the 14th minute when Mo Salah punished a horror error from Real keeper Thibaut Courtois.

But Real stormed back and were level before half-time thanks to two goals from Vinicius Junior.

His first was a brilliant individual goal after he had been surrounded by Liverpool defenders when he collected a pass from Karim Benzema in the corner of the penalty area.

Another goalkeeping blunder then gifted Vinicius his second goal after Alisson kicked a poor clearance straight at the Real forward.

Eder Militao headed Real in front early in the second half before two Benzema goals saw the reigning champions win 5-2.
