Gabriel Martinelli Scores 25th EPL Goal To Give Arsenal Dream Start Against Liverpool At Anfield
Gabriel Martinelli gave Arsenal a dream start at Anfield on Sunday by scoring a scrappy goal to put his team 1-0 up against Liverpool in the eighth minute.
Bukayo Saka tried to play a one-two with Martin Odegaard but the Norwegian's return pass deflected off Virgil van Dijk.
Van Dijk's touch diverted the ball into the path of Martinelli, who then darted into a gap between the Dutchman and Trent Alexander-Arnold before finishing deftly under pressure from Andy Robertson.
Martinelli, 21, has now scored 25 Premier League goals. Teammate Gabriel Jesus is the only other South American player to have reached this landmark before their 22nd birthday.
This was the 31st Premier League game since January 2022 in which Arsenal had scored the first goal. The Gunners had won 28 of their previous 30 after scoring first.
But Arsenal did not win on Sunday, despite Gabriel Jesus putting them 2-0 up in the 28th minute.
Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino hit back for Liverpool and the game ended 2-2.
Arsenal have still not won away at Liverpool since 2012.
