Real Madrid 2-0 Valencia

Real Madrid were frustrated by Valencia in the first half of Thursday's La Liga game at the Bernabeu but things changed after the interval.

Marco Asensio scored his fourth club goal of the season to fire Real ahead with a long-range thunderbolt on 52 minutes.

No La Liga team has scored more goals than Real from outside of the penalty area this season.

Real's second goal arrived two minutes and 18 seconds after their first.

It came courtesy of Vinicius Junior, who displayed incredible pace to speed away from fellow Brazilian Gabriel Paulista before finishing coolly.

Vinicius had been inside his own half when Karim Benzema played the ball into his path.

It took six seconds from when Vinicius crossed the halfway line to the moment the ball entered the Valencia goal.

Perhaps still thinking about how he had been outpaced for Real's second goal, Gabriel violently kicked Vinicius in the 72nd minute and was shown a straight red card.

Real's 2-0 victory saw them move to within five points of La Liga leaders Barcelona.
