There was mutual respect between fans of Liverpool and Real Madrid after Tuesday's UEFA Champions League game at Anfield.

On the pitch, Real thrashed Liverpool 5-2 to take a giant step towards the quarter-finals.

Two of Real's star performers, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema, were applauded by all four corners of Anfield when they were subbed off late in the match.

Many Liverpool supporters then clapped again after the final whistle as Real's victorious players walked over to salute their traveling fans.

This gesture by the home fans was clearly appreciated by the Real supporters, who responded by chanting: "Liverpool, Liverpool!"

The two sets of fans then gave each other a round of applause.
