Vinicius Junior scored a brilliant goal from 24 yards to give Real Madrid the lead over Manchester City 36 minutes into the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.

The Brazilian hammered a powerful shot past Ederson to finish off a slick Madrid move that had started with their goalkeeper.

Thibaut Courtois passed the ball to David Alaba, who moved it wide to Eduardo Camavinga. Left-back Camavinga then played a one-two with Luka Modric to beat the City press before dribbling forward for more than 50 yards and teeing up Vinicius.

This was the seventh goal Vinicius had scored in this season's Champions League.

It came from Real's only shot of the first half.

City had dominated the opening 45 minutes in terms of possession (68%) and chances.

But Courtois pulled off four saves, including two from Erling Haaland, to keep City's attack at bay.

City's pressure was finally rewarded in the second half though when a Kevin De Bruyne thunderbolt leveled the tie at 1-1.

The second leg will take place at the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday.
