New Palm Springs Surf Club Brings Perfect Waves To California Desert
Palm Springs is known for two things: golf and Frank Sinatra. But that's about to change as The Palm Springs Surf Club is bringing perfect surf to the California Desert. Built on the grounds of a former Wet 'n Wild water park, the new wave pool now means that you can play 18 holes in the morning, hit the Palm Springs Surf Club for a few waves in the afternoon, then be sitting poolside with a martini as the sun dips below the desert mountains. It's brilliant!
New video footage from the club released today shows the wave pool is capable of creating hollow, barreling waves, as well as down-the-line ramps for airs and maneuvers. Released from Hawaii's Mason Ho, the video also features California's Parker Coffin and Zacky Taylor, as well as filmmaker Logan Dulien. The crew was on hand filming for Dulien's next project, Snapt5.

The Palm Springs Surf Club is the vision of Maui surfer Cheyne Magnusen, who's dedicated himself to the project for several years now. Wave pool engineer Tom Lochtefeld, who built his first artificial wave back in 1991, was the brains behind the technology. Together, along with other partners, they've created a little bit of magic in the California desert.
There have been a number of potential surf park facilities in the works in the Palm Springs area for several years now, but this is the first one to officially go online and start making waves for the general public. Besides the wave pool itself, the facility also includes a top-shelf restaurant and cabanas for chillin'. The Palm Springs Surf Club is now officially taking reservations.
