Arlington Renegades Welcome Back Former Starting Safety

The Arlington Renegades added safety Jamal Carter to the active roster on Monday.

After a wave of cuts from their roster, the Renegades were able to bring back one of their starting safeties from last year’s squad. Former Miami Hurricanes safety Jamal Carter rejoined Arlington on Monday.

Carter was an opening-day starter at safety for the Renegades before an injury cost him most of the season. He was replaced by Joe Powell before returning in April as the backup. In just three regular-season games, he made 17 tackles, and he added three more in his lone postseason game.

During his NFL career, Carter stepped on the field with the Denver Broncos in 2017 and the Atlanta Falcons from 2019 through 2020. He posted 26 tackles and two pass deflections in 28 games.

Miami Hurricane fans saw how relentless Carter was in the secondary from 2014 through 2016. Carter finished his career with 156 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one interception and one forced fumble in 37 games. In his final season, he had a team-high 85 tackles.

With his experience in the defensive scheme, Carter will have a chance to be a starter from day one. The injury to Cameron Brown opened the door for Carter to return and compete in training camp.

The UFL’s final cutdown will be March 23, with teams solidifying their 50-man rosters ahead of the regular season.
