Defense was the focus for transactions this time around for the Houston Roughnecks, who released defensive tackle Damion Daniels, and signed defensive backs Jamari Brown and Kiondre Thomas on Saturday.

Daniels was with Houston head coach CJ Johnson with the Houston Gamblers in the USFL last season, making six tackles. He also played in one game with the St. Louis Battlehawks, making one tackle.

Outside of spring football, Daniels played for the Houston Texans in 2022. From 2017-21, he played college call for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He finished his senior year starting 11 games, making 33 tackles and two tackles for loss. The Big Ten named him to their All-Honorable Mention team in 2021.

Brown was on the Roughnecks for a short time after playing in college for Gardner-Webb. In four seasons, he made 197 tackles, 19 pass deflections, eight interceptions, 6.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and one sack in 46 games.

Thomas played in the NFL for three different teams including the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Chargers and the Cleveland Browns. In five NFL games, he made two tackles. Thomas played at Minnesota for four seasons and finished his last year at Kansas State making 27 tackles and four pass deflections in eight games.

The Roughnecks start the UFL season at home on March 31 against the Memphis Showboats.
